| Parent and/or Staff Training & Workshops Parent and/or staff (e.g., teacher, tutor, therapist, nanny, speech pathologist, etc.) training is made available based on the needs of your child's educational program. It is generally recommended to structure one workshop specifically for parents, one specifically for staff, and a third for the pulling together of the two critical pieces: parent and staff! If possible, it is ideal to arrange a three-part workshop across several interested families, with similar concerns for their child. This allows for a variety of questions to be addressed, as well as the building of a supportive network. During workshops, a basic overview of behavioral principles are taught and then specified to your child's learning program. Specific Workshops Currently, the following specific workshops are offered: Beyond Behavioral Basics: Understanding Behaviors Across Environments & Peoples This workshop offers a more in-depth view of behavioral principles as they apply to each and every persons daily life. The participants address a behavior to target of their own --- often relaying the ability to further relate to their child's educational needs. Addressing Social Skills Development in Individuals Diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum The following areas are addressed, defined, and shown to interrelate to behavioral based learning techniques: Perspective-Taking, Theory of Mind, Brain Gym, Music Therapy, Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Relationship Development. Pulling the Pieces of My Child's Educational Program Together Pulling the pieces of your child's educational program can seem daunting, so we arrange for the very structure to do that! After many years of seeing the difficulty of getting the right amount of this or the precise number of hours of that, we said, "Let's try to provide some balance!" This workshop will walk you through it, using behavioral principles! The A-Z’s of Social Skills Development for Individuals Diagnosed Along the Autism Spectrum Following the alphabet, we start by defining Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), provide hands-on examples for setting up an ABA program, discuss the "hidden curriculum" of social skills, and close the morning with "flavors of time-out!" When we return, we work on defining and applying theory of mind, perspective-taking, and non- verbal communication to any level of learner. Autism: Unraveling the Key Instruments for Successful Implementations within the Classroom The methods behind data-driven classroom decisions are discussed and applied through hands-on exploration of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). We will target preference assessments, motivational operations, discrete trial training, prompting and fading, skill acquisition, and shaping. |
